Free Tibet UK has an awareness campaign going on behalf of Tibet's jailed musicians. One of these unsung heroes is Trinley Tsekar (photo at right, below), who was sentenced to nine years in December 2013. His "crime" was to participate in anti-mining protests in Driru County. He seems to have been singled out for such an absurd sentence due to his popular songs—celebrating Tibetan identity, culture and language. Another singer, Shawo Tashi (photo second from right), was sentenced to five years in jail, apparently because of his songs calling for Tibetan unity and protection of the environment. You can sign a petition calling for the release of these and other musicians at the Free Tibet website.
